It would have been nice to learn more about the Japanese soldier/Officer who was killed... who he was, how old he was, was he an infantry officer, etc. His family could have told us more about he Flag that was returned and what was written on it? Can any Japanese who watch this please put that in the comments ??? It leaves alot of questions. Perhaps a re-edit of this presentation by the Obon Society ?

Our heroes. Rest easy to all our fallen vets. And to all those who lost their lives in wartimes. The civilian's. The soldiers on anyside of the war. The children. How sad almost shocks me to my core.how Things can get this bad. never again. scarry and a sobering reality. May peace walk among those men and women. We need to do more for the vets. Since the beginning they've been getting a short stick. They deserve the world. The clothes of my back. Just wish governments saw them as we do. True heroes.

Funny thing is, Jap soldiers were never even remotely as magnanimous, kind or honorable to their enemies; if Mr. Strombo had been captured by the Japs he would've been horribly tortured to death and if had been caught with an American flag, they would've used it as toilet paper in front of him.

I was part the skeleton crew of the USS Lexington waiting to cross deck to USS FORRESTAL, I found an old drawer in a compartment. I found a bunch of photos and official papers. I couldn't believe I was looking at a dead Japanese sailor dead, slumped over something I couldn't make out. That was just part of War. All of it is sad.

i wonder if the average Japanese person understands, how much as Americans we forgive them, and respect them. The war was a very long time ago, our youth of today appreciate your wonderful culture. Our marines maintain a base in Japan, id like to see anyone try to hurt Japan, They would have 10,000 screaming, ravenous, Marines to deal with. We are friends, we protect, our friends.

"with Malice towards none..." in the 1940's we were blood enemies, today the same Japanese nation is among our most stalwart allies. gestures like this, as heartfelt as any oath, strengthen that bond . Soldiers speak of being together in the Elysian fields, Valhalla, Arlington, these two men, the Marine and the fallen Japanese soldier I can see on a porch, in chairs, rocking... as they look over the heroes of humanity's conflicts. Friends, for eternity.

I almost cant see what im typing through my tears lol. I dont know if you all noticed this, or if im reading into it too much, but did any of you see the smile on Mr. Strumbo's face as he boarded the airplane and when all of these people greeted him? It made me feel kind of like he felt like a star in those moments. I cant tell you how happy it made me to see that, because if ANYONE deserves to feel that way about himself, it is this man. To be trained in the Marines to basically kill the people he went over there and saw, and to have the decency and integrity as a human being to take that flag off an enemy to hopefully give to his family someday, is something I think has to be SO RARE, and keep in mind, this man was just a kid himself at the time. We have lost almost all of these heroes who sacrificed IT ALL for our way of life in this country in WW2, and honestly im too terrified to even look up Mr. Strumbo's name to see if he is still with us, but whether he is or is not still with us, YOU DESERVED TO FEEL LIKE A STAR, sir, and deserved it everyday you lived here after you came back from that war. I will never, ever forget you after seeing this, and you are hero to me until the day I die. May God bless you always, and keep you tightly under his wing. God bless you Mr. Strombo.
